Time

One by one moments slip by,
Uncounted but not unnumbered.
Flying from a shrouded fate they meet;
days longed for and remembered.

There they rest forever green,
gilded by memory,
but nevermore to live,
to be new again, and free.

Each moment breaths only once
as it speeds us along our way.
That life, once spent, comes no more;
it joins the amber prisoned day

Cares and crowns, as yet unborn,
are the province of destiny
Events and days as yet unknown
shall follow heavens decree.

For the past no one can alter.
The future no one can see.
But the air we breathe is present.
In this moment we are free.
