Hiraeth

Poignant as joy was once bright,
it pierces as keenly.
A haunt in the halls of memory,
Ghost of gladness in days gone by,
Voice of beauty faded,
Light of glory dimmed,
Heart of love now lost.
Melodies of songs unsung
and summer kingdoms fallen to ruin.
Remembrance of all things gone
that shall never come again.
Vision of days once bright
gone down now into shadow.
Once man was more,
and the world was greater.
